EXCLUSIVE: Nurse denies Black mother medical treatment at hospital because she was on her phone

Today on #NEWSYOUCANUSE, we’re highlighting discrimination in the health care system. In February, Shirley Archibald was on the phone with her daughter, waiting to be seen for her heart condition at Windsor Regional Hospital in Ontario, when a nurse screamed at her, telling the 72-year-old woman that she had to hang up the phone or she wouldn’t be able to see a doctor. The nurse then threatened to call security on Shirley, forcing her to leave the hospital without receiving care! Brandon sat down with Shirley’s daughter Amie to discuss how her mother was treated, and what their family would like to see changed to ensure no one else is treated this way while seeking medical attention. Have you ever experienced discrimination in health care?
