A woman has been arrested after allegedly bringing a corpse into a bank to sign papers for a loan in Brazil.
A surveillance video captured the 42-year-old woman from Brazil named Érika de Souza Vieira Nunes getting out of a cab and putting her uncle’s corpse into a wheelchair and pushing him into the bank.
A bank teller recorded a viral video of the woman trying to guide the man named Paulo Roberto Braga to sign papers in order to take out 17,000 reais (about $4,500 CAD).
In the disturbing video, she’s heard saying, “Uncle, are you listening? You need to sign. If you don’t sign, there’s no way, because I can’t sign for you,” according to media outlets who translated her audio from Portuguese to English.
“I don’t think this is legal. He doesn’t look well. He’s very pale,” an employee was overheard saying in the video.
The bank employees called police and once authorities arrived they confirmed Braga was dead, according to reports.
It was determined he died several hours before his niece brought him into the bank branch.
According to an autopsy, her uncle died from broncho-aspiration and heart failure. The report also noted he showed signs of malnourishment.
In addition, De Souza was arrested and is facing attempted theft by fraud and vilification of a corpse, according to authorities.
