‘I utterly condemn the far-right thuggery,’ U.K. Prime Minister responds to violent riots rocking the nation

A second emergency meeting is scheduled Tuesday to address the ongoing U.K. riots that were fuelled after three children died at a Taylor Swift-themed party.

The violence was sparked by last week’s shocking stabbing that killed three girls in Southport, a seaside town north of Liverpool, in which they attended a Taylor-Swift themed dance and yoga class.

There was online speculation that the 17-year-old suspect named Axel Muganwa Rudakubana, was an asylum-seeker or a Muslim immigrant. However, police have confirmed the suspect was born in Britain and born to Rwandan parents.

The violence that erupted in the U.K. marks the biggest riot in over a decade, and according to the Independent over 400 arrests have been made.

On Monday, Prime Minister Keir Starmer held a Cabinet Office Briefing Room A (COBRA) meeting with ministers and top law enforcement officials to discuss the disturbances fuelled by right-wing activists.

In a post on X, Starmer said, “I utterly condemn the far-right thuggery we have seen this weekend.”

Starmer also said in another post that he will order a standing army of public duty officers, ramp up criminal justice and apply criminal law online as well as offline.

“We will not tolerate attacks on mosques or on Muslim communities,” Starmer’s X post says.

People online are reacting to the ongoing violence happening in the U.K.
