Mississauga’s Farzi Café Shuts Down After Viral Accusations of Overcharging customers

A popular Mississauga restaurant has officially closed its doors following a wave of accusations from customers who say they were scammed during their visits.

Farzi Café, located at Square One Shopping Centre, is no longer in operation as of Monday, according to a spokesperson for the mall. The spokesperson did not clarify why the restaurant shut down, but the closure comes after weeks of public backlash.

The controversy first came to light when a woman named Harnoor Sahota posted a TikTok video detailing her experience at the restaurant, which quickly went viral. The video, now viewed over 600,000 times, describes how Sahota and her friends were pressured by staff into ordering drinks and appetizers they hadn’t requested—only to be handed a $240 bill at the end of the night, complete with surprise charges and an unexplained gratuity fee.

Sahota’s story struck a chord online, sparking a flood of similar complaints in the comments from others who said they’d had nearly identical encounters. The allegations ranged from being overcharged to having items added to their bills without consent.

Farzi Café has since been hit with over 7,500 Google reviews, many of them negative and has also been called out on TripAdvisor, Reddit, and other platforms. Complaints include aggressive upselling and misleading billing practices.

Sahota joined other customers in filing formal reports with the Better Business Bureau (BBB), where the café has already racked up more than 20 complaints and now holds an “F” rating.

The restaurant responded to the backlash on Instagram on June 4, calling the claims “baseless” and stating that its legal team is “pursuing the matter to hold the individuals involved accountable for the damage caused.”

Despite their denial, Farzi Café Mississauga has not responded to multiple requests for comment.
