A viral TikTok clip has sparked a city-wide conversation about hygiene on public transit. In the video, a frustrated TTC driver rants saying,
“Why are y’all coming on the bus musty at 8AM in the morning? Your armpits stink, your breath stink. What are we doing?!”
The opinion of the TTC bus driver has many people talking, so The Brandon Gonez Show hit the streets of Toronto to get the public’s take on whether hygiene etiquette is really an issue on the TTC.
Some Torontonians completely agreed with the TikTokers opinions.
“Sometimes it sticks,” one rider said.
Another said “Yes, there’s multiple smells. You should get up early, take a shower and brush your teeth…you gotta sit next to the person, right? But you can’t. Don’t be rude about it, but just get up and move”
But not everyone sided with the video’s tone.
One person straight up just said “no” when asked if they noticed a smell of the train.
Others think the TTC could step in with a subtle reminder.
“I see sometimes in the trains they have…physical posters where it’s like, you know, give your seat to somebody else, or like things like that, so they can kind of integrate that into hygiene.”
