Despite the negativity that at times seems so loud online, there is still some good the internet can bring.
For an elderly AMC movie theatre worker, it came as a surprise when she discovered that she had gone viral online and that total strangers wanted to help her.
An 85-year-old woman in Tennessee named Mary Ellon Eron was gifted $146,000 after a 21 year-old woman, Brooklyn Green, captured a video that pulled at thousands of heart strings.
Green said she felt inspired to do something nice for the woman who was working hard, lifting a heavy garbage bag and pushing a cleaning cart at the theatre.
She then launched a GoFundMe page for the worker to help go towards her retirement and posted a Tiktok video which quickly gained the eyes of millions.
“The video went viral, reaching over 12.3 million views, and the GoFundMe linked to the video has raised more than $144,990 in just 48 hours,” Green writes on her social media post.
“Seeing someone in their later years still working so diligently inspired me to try to make a difference,” reads the statement on the fundraising page.
After the outpour of love given by people who donated, Green took to social media to share her surprising Eron with the money a few days later.
Filled with gratitude, Eron expressed her appreciation for all the donations and the two shared a heartfelt hug.
An alleged AMC co-worker of Eron commented on Green’s social media post saying, “OMG that’s Mrs Mary at my work! I’ve been working with that lovely woman for three years and I’m so excited to see this happen for her CONGRATULATIONS MARYY.”
It is not reported if Eron will retire but the internet is looking forward to seeing what’s next for her.
