Jimmy Kimmel is back on the air! The late-night host returned Tuesday night following his indefinite suspension from the ABC network. The suspension was announced as a result of his comments on Charlie Kirk’s death.
Kimmel opened the show with a lengthy 17-minute monologue clarifying his intentions with his jokes about Kirk’s murder during the Sept. 17 broadcast of “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” Kimmel teared up when talking about how his comments were perceived. He seemingly backpedaled on a previous remark by saying the murderer of Charlie Kirk “doesn’t represent anyone.” He also mentioned that he has loved ones on “the other side” politically and still remains close to them. He made this point to further emphasize his main concern, the increasing encroaching removal of freedom of speech. He said revoking the first amendment would not only impact those on the left, but everyone.
Kimmel thanked his peers who vocalized their denouncement of his suspension, especially those who would not normally come to his defense, such as republican politician Ted Cruz, and encouraged all Americans to be “ten times as loud” if President Trump tries to silence another prominent media figure.
@gbnews Jimmy Kimmel used his return to late-night television to hit back at President Trump. After a nearly week-long suspension over his on-air remarks about the man accused of assassinating conservative activist Charlie Kirk that drew the ire of the Trump administration, Kimmel said: ‘You almost have to feel sorry for him [Trump] He tried did his best to cancel me. Instead, he forced millions of people to watch the show. That backfired bigly. He might have to release the Epstein files to distract us from this now.’ Kimmel also called out the President for what he said shows that Trump is not able to take a joke. Before the show aired, Trump wrote that he “can’t believe” ABC gave Kimmel back his show, and hinted at further action. #JimmyKimmel #DonaldTrump #CharlieKirk #GBNews

While his studio audience was enthused, some viewers voiced their concerns regarding what they believe was an ill-advised apology.
@jackmacbarstool Hmmmmmm I’m not 100% sure about this. It was a decent statement though.

Other standout moments from last night’s show include Kimmel reuniting with his sidekick, Guillermo, and Canadian musician Sarah McLachlan performing her title single, “Better Broken,” from her first album in nine years.
