Budweiser Stage is a venue like no other, from the iconic outdoor amphitheater seating and stunning views looking out onto the Toronto skyline. It was the perfect stage for the historic moment when 14,000 people came together to not only celebrate Soca but Caribbean culture in Toronto.
On June 14th, Kes the band made Canadian history as he became the first ever soca artist to perform at Budweiser stage and The Brandon Gonez Show was there to witness it all.
The energy was like no other and the crowd was filled with people of all ages from young to old, everyone came to be a part of something this historic.
From the first beat to the final note, Kes poured his heart into the performance, and the crowd gave it right back. It wasn’t just a concert. It was a moment and a reminder of how far soca has come, and a powerful representation of what can be when an entire community comes together.
Kes took the stage on for 4 hours straight giving us vibes and all the tunes but he didn’t do it all alone. Kes brought out many guests or as he put it “friends that have shaped soca”
From Jamaican legend Tessan Chin to Chutney star Ravi B as well as soca legends Teddyson John, Yung Bredda, Voice and David Rudder the show was filled with people who have impacted the culture.
This show was more than a concert; it was a celebration of Caribbean excellence.
For many, this was more than music.
It was home.
It was representation.
It was love.
And it’s a night Toronto the Caribbean diaspora will never forget.
