Liverpool Star Diogo Jota Dies in Tragic Car Accident in Spain

The football world is reeling after the shocking death of Liverpool forward Diogo Jota, who tragically died in a car accident in Spain alongside his younger brother, André Silva, in the early hours of July 3, 2025. He was just 28 years old.

The fatal crash occurred around 12:30 a.m. local time on the A-52 motorway near the town of Cernadilla, in the province of Zamora. According to Spanish authorities, the brothers were traveling in a Lamborghini when the car reportedly veered off the road, overturned, and caught fire. Initial investigations suggest the vehicle may have suffered a tire blowout while overtaking, leading to the devastating accident. There were no other vehicles involved, and both men were pronounced dead at the scene.

Jota had been spending time in Spain following his recent wedding to long-time partner Rute Cardoso just two weeks prior. The couple share three young children.

The news has sent shockwaves through the football community. Liverpool FC released a statement saying they are “devastated by the tragic passing” of their star forward and asked for privacy for Jota’s family.

Soccer star Cristiano Ronaldo also paid tribute, writing:

“It doesn’t make any sense… You had just gotten married. Rest in peace, Diogo and André. We will all miss you.”

Jota’s sudden death is a heartbreaking loss for football, his teammates, and fans around the world.

Diogo Jota (1996–2025) will be remembered not only for his talent and tenacity but for the joy he brought to millions through the beautiful game.
