Last night the 2025 NBA Draft pick took place at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, N.Y. and well all eyes are on the Raptors’ newest pick after his reaction took the internet by storm.
When cameras panned to Collin Murray-Boyles as his name was called by commissioner Adam Silver, he shook his head and appeared to let out a F bomb before hugging his loved ones in attendance.
Basketball fans were confused by the reaction of the 20-year-old South Carolina forward, many speculating their interpretations of it online.
“I’m guessing maybe he doesn’t want to play in Canada… some players don’t want to,” an X user said.
“It did seem like a ‘wow, damn I am actually in the NBA’ type reaction but idk,” one user on Reddit said.
“He seemed really nervous before the pick so then maybe it was a moment of relief? Who knows,” another Reddit user wrote.
However, the Toronto Raptors are not taking Murray-Boyles’ reaction to heart and instead made a light-heartedly post making fun of the situation saying “see guys he’s happy!”
Murray-Boyles was quick to clear the air when speaking with media afterwards, insisting that he wasn’t disappointed and just purely in disbelief when the Toronto Raptors selected him ninth overall.
“What I said was not a bad thing by any means,” Murray-Boyles said, noting that the raptors were one of the first teams he had a workout with and adding “I’m just very thankful for it.”
In another post-draft interview, he emphasized that he’s excited to head to the city.
Being with this organization means so much, they’re a winning organization,” Murray-Boyles said.
“It was crazy, I almost shed a tear… it’s surreal. I dreamed about this when I was a kid.”
He also added that his passport is ready, and once he gets to Toronto, his first order of business is snapping a photo of the city for his Instagram story, putting a Drake song over it and tagging the rapper.
