Local baker Whitney Ware is inspiring others to create their own opportunities and follow their passions to help their dreams become a reality.
Baking since the age of 13, and completely self taught, she has created a successful business and is the owner of Cake Your Way bakeshop located in Vaughan, Ont.
Becoming a Business Owner
At first her parents weren’t set on the idea of her wanting to bake for a living, but now she has proved that you can in fact build the life that you want.
Her bakeshop has now been open for eight years, with what started out as just custom cakes has now expanded to a walk in menu of their famous cookie pies.

Cake Your Way is the home to customizable cakes and viral cookie pies.
“I think it just is a testament to my creativity. I love doing things with my hands. I love DIY. I love trial and errors. Using all of those things allows me to really be creative in the space that I’m in,” Ware tells Now Toronto.
Underrepresentation in the Baking Industry
Ware addresses the lack of Black representation in the baking industry and how she turned her obstacles into success.
“I think just being in a space that a lot of people don’t look like me, or I don’t receive the same opportunities as other people, that has been a very big challenge, because I’m completely bootstrapped,” she says.
“I’ve done this on my own, and it’s a lot. It’s very intimidating when you go through struggles. I think that has really allowed me to be resilient and depend on myself and also prove to myself that anything I put my mind to, I can do it.”
Cake Your Way is located at 7007 Islington Ave Unit 10, and is available on Uber Eats and cakeyourway.com.
Now with over 47,000 instagram followers, Ware displays how a vision combined with determination can create a successful business.
“You just never know when you’re gonna get that moment where everything clicks. So keep going. Don’t give up and make yourself proud.”
