Uber Eats says it’s aware of the DoorDash driver who recently spit in a customer’s drink order in Whitby.
On Sept. 27, George Bishay, caught his DoorDash driver deliberately spitting in his Booster Juice drink before it was delivered to his doorstep through his doorbell camera. In an email statement to Gonez Media, Bishay said the drink was meant for his ill two-year-old son to make him feel better and hydrated.
Bishay says he’s been a DoorDash customer for years and has spent hundreds per month ordering on the app. After placing the order for his drinks, he even tipped the driver 18 per cent. However, that did not stop the driver from opening the seal of his son’s drink and spitting in it before closing the lid, as seen in the video.
Bishay says he then called police about the matter and then confronted the driver on his driveway.
“This is for my two-year-old son, why would you spit in my drink?” Bishay asked, to which the driver responded, “I’m so sorry, sir.”
Police ultimately did arrive at the residence, according to Bishay. Although police were called about the incident, they ended up charging the driver for an unrelated offence as he had two young children in the backseat of his car who were not sitting in car seats or wearing seatbelts.
“The suspect was issued two provincial offences notices for Drive While Child Passenger Not Properly Secured. Each ticket carries a set fine of $200.00 and two demerit points,” Durham Regional Police Service said in a statement to Gonez Media on Wednesday.
After the incident, DoorDash confirmed to Gonez Media that the driver in question has been removed from its platform and that it has provided compensation to Bishay.
“This behaviour is completely unacceptable. DoorDash does not condone any tampering with customer orders, as food safety is one of our top priorities. The Dasher in question has been deactivated from our platform and the customer has been compensated for this appalling experience. We are also reaching out to the customer directly to learn more and further offer our continued support,” a DoorDash spokesperson said in a statement on Monday.

UBER EATS TAKING APPROPRIATE ACTION
After the video was shared online, many comments claimed that the driver also works with Uber Eats.
Gonez Media reached out to Uber Eats for a comment and it said it is aware of the report and has taken appropriate action.
“Uber Eats is committed to helping customers get the foods they love, and we work closely with food safety experts to help inform safe delivery practices for delivery people and restaurants,” an Uber spokesperson said to Gonez Media on Wednesday.
“We routinely share food safety information, like temperature management and contamination prevention, with delivery people and merchants and encourage the use of tamper-evident packaging. If a customer believes their food has been tampered with, we encourage them to report it to us so we can take appropriate action,” the statement continued.
The food delivery and ride-share platform adds that it is dedicated to ensuring proper food safety standards to its customers globally through its Community Guidelines ,which its delivery drivers must follow. These guidelines include efficient delivery times, packaging solutions, tamper-evident seals and a feedback system.
