What Is the Song of the Summer? Toronto Weighs In

Summer is here, and with it comes the annual debate, what’s the song that’ll define the season? Every summer has that song. The one blasting from open car windows, playing at every rooftop party, and dominating all the playlist.

The song of the summer is more than just a catchy beat, it’s a vibe that defines summer. So we hit the streets of Toronto to find out what locals are listening to as summer officially hits.

Some people are still waiting for that one song to take over. “There’s no good music out. I’m waiting for something to drop,” one Torontonian said, echoing the sentiment that this summer’s anthem may still be on the way.

Others already have their go-to tracks. One person didn’t hesitate: “Bad Bunny, for sure.” With his global appeal it’s no surprise fans expect him to dominate summer playlists yet again.

For others a classic oldie is gold “I would say ‘Move Mountains’ by Alkaline,” shared one fan.

On the other end of the spectrum, some are leaning into the country. “Any kind of country music,” someone said.

And of course, it wouldn’t be a Toronto summer without at least one Drake mention. “I would say ‘NOKIA’ by Drake,” said another resident, showing that the 6ix God can carry serious weight when it comes to summer anthems.

So while there’s no clear winner just yet, one thing is for sure — whether it’s reggaeton, dancehall, hip-hop, country, or something we haven’t heard yet, Toronto is ready to vibe.
