A viral video of two podcasters are sparking online debate over their claims on “poor people” using washcloths.
The podcast is called Your Mom’s House with Christina P. and Tom Segura. The pair is married and both comedians.
A clip from a previous episode is making its rounds on social media again.
An X user reposted the clip and captioned it, “Wait wtf washcloths are for poor people? Since when??”
In the video, the pair is giving their take on who uses washcloths.
“Washcloths are for poor people,” Segura said.
Pazsitzky also said, “I’ve only had one friend use washcloths and when she would stay with me she’d say, ‘Can I have a washcloth?’ and I’d say, ‘I don’t have a washcloth, there’s no washcloth. Use your hand dummy.’”
“I’ve ended friendships when I saw washcloths,” he responded.
“I don’t want that stink on me, you know? That like poor stink,” he added.
The video has garnered 31 million views since the time of publication and it has sparked a debate in the comments.
Some people called the couple “dirty” for not using a washcloth and others shared their preferred cleaning methods.
Others questioned if the podcasters were speaking about a certain race.
In addition, people have pointed out that the podcasters are comedians and maybe their comments were satire all along.
The Brandon Gonez Show contacted Dr. Fred Weksberg, Cosmetic Dermatologist and Medical Director of Dermapure Toronto, to ask if professionals recommend using washcloths.
“Even though it sounds like a good idea, using a face cloth is not the best way to wash your skin. It can cause irritation of the skin. It can hold bacteria, dirt, and dead skin cells if used multiple times before washing it,” Weksberg said.
“Some people recommend using loofah or a sponge. I do not recommend using these methods either. The fibers can be abrasive to the skin and may also provide a good environment for remnants of dirt, dead skin cells, and bacteria,” Weksberg added.
Furthermore, he said using your hands is the best method when cleaning.
“It is easy to wash and clean your hands, is non-irritating to the skin, and is more economical than using wash cloths, loofah, or other sponges.”
