If you’ve been on the internet recently you’ve probably heard of Gypsy Rose Blanchard, the 32-year-old woman who is fresh out of prison for the murder of her mother.

Blanchard has pretty much been making headlines her entire life, for different reasons.

From the age of eight she was allegedly diagnosed with leukemia and muscular dystrophy and went on to be confined to a wheelchair, have multiple surgeries and forced to eat from a feeding tube, according to People Magazine’s exclusive interview with Blanchard.

The problem? She was 100% healthy and her mother, Dee Dee, made it all up, going as far as to convince their community, health care professionals and Blanchard herself that she was terminally ill and in need of urgent help.

It was believed that her mother suffered from Munchausen by proxy, a condition where a caregiver exaggerates, makes up or even causes a child’s illness in order to get medical care and attention, according to the National Institutes of Health.

Blanchard wanted to escape the abuse and after meeting her boyfriend at the time, Nicholas Godejohn, she managed to convince him to kill her mother so they could run away together, which they did, until they were caught by police, according to reports.

In 2019, Godejohn was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole and Blanchard was sentenced to 10 years in prison in 2016, later being released three years early.

She admitted that her mother didn’t deserve to die, rather be in jail for her criminal behavior.

Today, Blanchard is back on our radar after being released from behind bars on Thursday and to say the internet has been anticipating her release would be an understatement.

“This is a message for Gypsy Rose, hi hello this is TikTok, I am begging you to start making videos on here please. I don’t know what form of mental illness I have but it’s the one that’s deeply invested in your case,” TikTok user Sara Huntington said, in a video that has garnered nearly 10 million views as of publication.

Not long after, Blanchard posted her first video appearance on TikTok thanking everyone for all the support she’s been receiving.

“Hi everyone, this is Gypsy. I’m finally free,” she said in a TikTok video posted on Sunday that garnered nearly 20 millions views as of Tuesday.

“I just want to send a quick video to thank everyone for the massive amount of support that I’ve been getting on social media.”

Blanchard is happily married and also announced a documentary series coming out soon.
