Started from the Bottom, Now She’s $10K Richer: Toronto Woman Wins Drake Lookalike Contest

A woman has won the Drake lookalike contest in Toronto, earning herself a whopping $10,000 from the 6 God himself.

On Saturday, Casuals Cakery hosted the Drake Era’s Lookalike contest at downtown club Apt. 200 where roughly 25 Drake doppelgangers and three Adonises showed up for a chance to win money or a certified Toronto mans’ pack consisting of one bottle of Hennessy, a pack of Backwoods and other prizes.

Last week, the bakery posted a screenshot of a direct message the company received from Drake on Instagram where he offered “10 bands to the lookalike contest as the main prize.”

In response, Casual Cakery founder Lillianna Brown said she needed a minute to “stop hyperventilating.”

“I can barely type and a whole shock went through my body. But yes this is true and real & I hope the Drake doppelgängers ready,” the founder wrote in the caption.

During the contest, the lookalikes were asked to dance, sing and answer questions about their favourite Drake song, what era they’re representing and where they would take a Toronto girl on a date.

Videos from The Brandon Gonez Show reveal men dressed in cornrows, vests, jerseys, jean jackets and hair clips hoping to snag the prize, but in the end one female in pigtails came out on top, 21-year-old Makayla Chambers. In second place was John Puente who had braids and donned a Nike vest, and Jei Perez who was in a navy blue and yellow wind breaker.

“It’s still so shocking. My dad called me this morning because he saw me in the newspaper, and I’m like, ‘Yeah, it’s just so shocking’. I’m still in shock, because what? I’m constantly shaking because I’m like, ‘This didn’t happen, but it did.’ It’s just so funny,” she said to Now Toronto.

Chambers encourages others to go for their dreams and not worry about public perception.

“YOLO, just do whatever you want. Just live your life. Because if I didn’t do this, I wouldn’t have won. If I didn’t go in, it wouldn’t have been so funny,” she said.

When it comes to some of the negative reactions regarding the results, Chambers says she’s simply a “girl with a dream” and she appreciates those who are showing their support.

“It’s really weird…I’m genuinely confused because so many people are hating on me. And I’m like, ‘I’m just a girl, please, I’m just a girl.’ I’m just a girl with a dream, you know? And I’m like, I just want to go in here and have fun. And the girls there were so supportive, like everyone there, I’m so happy that I went and got to live that experience,” she said.

Chambers plans on using the prize money to buy Christmas presents for her family who have been struggling since her mother passed away earlier this year.

The Drake lookalike contest attracted approximately 130 people, including a few attendees who flew in from New York and Milwaukee. In fact, the original organizer of the lookalike contest in the U.S., Anthony Po, was also in attendance cosplaying as young Adonis.

Po is the organizer of the inaugural lookalike contest in New York which started with Oscar-nominated actor Timothée Chalamet followed by Jeremy Allen White.
