People across social media are stunned after a video surfaced showing a Cinnabon employee directing overtly racist remarks at two Somali customers in Wisconsin. The interaction, originally posted on TikTok, has sparked national conversation about racism, customer treatment, and the political climate surrounding Somali immigrants in the U.S.
The Viral Confrontation
In the widely shared clip, the Cinnabon worker can be heard telling the customers, “I am racist…” before doubling down moments later when questioned: “Did I stutter?”

According to the Somali couple who recorded the exchange, the incident escalated without warning during what was meant to be a routine interaction at the bakery.
A Heated Moment Amid National Rhetoric
The timing of the incident has only intensified reactions online, as it follows recent political rhetoric targeting Somali immigrants — prompting many viewers to draw parallels between national messaging and real-world hostility.
Cinnabon Responds and Takes Action
The BG Show reached out to Cinnabon, and a company spokesperson confirmed the employee had been immediately terminated.
“We are aware of the deeply troubling video involving a former employee at the independently owned and operated Cinnabon bakery in Ashwaubenon, Wisconsin. The individual seen in the video was immediately terminated by the franchise owner. Their actions and statements are completely unacceptable and in no way reflect the values of Cinnabon, our franchisees, or the welcoming environment we expect for every guest and team member. We take this situation seriously and remain committed to ensuring all guests are treated with dignity, respect, and kindness every time they visit one of our bakeries,’ a Cinnabon spokesperson said in a statement.
A Crowdfunding Twist
While the termination resolved the employment side of the incident, it sparked an unexpected development: a crowdfunding campaign launched in support of the former employee. The fundraiser has already surpassed $100,000, with organizers claiming the money will help her “land on her feet.”
The campaign’s rapid success has fuelled further debate, with many expressing shock that openly discriminatory behaviour has generated such substantial financial support.
Public Reaction
Reactions across TikTok and social media have been overwhelmingly critical. Many users expressed disbelief, sadness, and exhaustion, calling the fundraiser “rewarding bad behaviour.” Others said they weren’t surprised at all, citing a long-standing tolerance for racism in parts of the country.
