A viral video has sparked debate about dinner  etiquette when dining out and about who should pay for the bill.

A video posted on Instagram has gained nearly 400,000 views since publication and shows a group of women at a restaurant celebrating their friend’s birthday.

However, a debate broke out once the $700 bill was brought out. The women were appalled when the only man at the table requested to split the cheques and only offered to pay for the birthday girl and his wife.

“You the only man at the table, you not gonna pay the cheque?”

“Well, I’m not obligated, I got my whole family,” he responded.

“It’s $700 for this whole table and it’s my birthday.”

The women continued to argue with the man until they had enough and walked out of the restaurant.

“You don’t come to no establishment like that talking about splitting cheques. I don’t do that, I don’t split cheques. That’s really ghetto.”

Many people posted on TikTok giving their reaction to the video.

However, the video was later revealed to be just a skit.

The man in the video was David Shands, who’s the co-host of Social Proof Podcast along with Donni Wiggins, who was also featured in the video and played the “the birthday girl.

In an Instagram post about the skit, the caption said, “We wanted to start a conversation around no longer feeling pressured to cover the bills for people just because “you have the most money,” or “you’re the only man at the table.”

“YES – this is STILL a conversation TODAY because it’s sadly still HAPPENING today!” the caption added.
