BRAMPTON – Nikki Kaur, who recently ran against Patrick Brown in an unsuccessful bid to become Mayor of Brampton, was just fired from her position at Brampton city hall. Kaur was the city’s director of strategic projects, planning & building economic development and says that she was terminated on Tuesday “without explanation or notice.”

“Patrick Brown has once again tried to silence me for alleging wrongdoing and mismanagement at City Hall. I will not be silenced and will never stop standing up for what is right,” Kaur said in a statement provided by lawyer Scott Lemke on Tuesday.

This is not the first time Kaur was fired as a city employee. She was fired in 2021 after making allegations of mismanagement against senior staff and accusing Brown of improperly directing her to help with Peter McKay’s failed federal Conservative leadership campaign in 2020. Kaur was later reinstated.

Kaur went on to say that she has retained legal counsel and “will fight this injustice.”

A spokesperson for Patrick Brown said he will not comment on the situation at this time, but online people are voicing their opinions.

The GTA Reacts to Nikki Kaur’s Firing

Many people feel as though Kaur’s termination is justified.

“So she went against her boss, was fired but was then reinstated. Went at/against her boss again, and was fired again. Now it claims it was not justified. Both parties need to go in separate directions. Why work somewhere you don’t like, but now claim your firing was not justified,” tweeted one person.

“She sounds problematic to me, to be honest. Bit of a Kaur. Got in trouble for spreading gossip and trying to mutiny at work. Forced her way back into her job, then hires a lawyer/campaign manager to smear him for her. Still won’t give it up. She seems like a narcissist to [me]. Gods bless her though,” shared a viewer on Instagram, adding that they feel she should bow out now.

“But she ran against him and spilled the tea too LOL. Even if it’s true… she played those cards lol. I’d fire her too, to be honest,” added another.

While others are bored with the political drama.

“There are more important issues than Nikki Kaur and her many attempts to go at and after Patrick Brown. Also, the way the Brampton council is handling this is no better. Nobody really cares. Move on and carry on,” shared one person online.

Brampton Election Results

Election results from Monday’s vote show that Kaur managed to snag 25.5% of the vote, with Brown earning 50652 votes, securing 59.65% of the vote. Overall, voter turnout was low in Brampton. With 160 polling locations, only 87,155 cast a ballot, representing just 24.56% of eligible voters.
