Organizers of the previously cancelled hip-hop music festival Hot in Toronto are suing some of the artists that were scheduled to perform.
Back in May, the festival was abruptly postponed and never rescheduled, after its headliner Lil Wayne pulled out at the last minute. The event was supposed to take place at Downsview Park in June following a successful debut the summer before. Until today, some attendees who bought tickets are still waiting for refunds, based on media reports.
The organizers, Festivals of Vaughan, are taking matters to court suing the artists involved, including Fabolous, Lil’ Kim and 2Chainz, however Lil Wayne is not involved in the lawsuit, according to CityNews Toronto who obtained court documents that were filed in the United States.
Organizers reportedly claim the artists violated oral contracts by not posting about the festival on social media and their websites, in addition to not performing. They have filed several lawsuits seeking a collective total of nearly $500,000 CAD, which they say is equal to the deposits paid to the artists.
The Brandon Gonez Show reached to Universal Attractions Inc., which represents the artists, but they did not provide a response by publication deadline.
Earlier this summer after news of the festival being indefinitely cancelled, some users took to social media claiming that organizers are ghosting ticket holders and not responding to their requests for refunds.
