These fast food chains have beef: Torontonians debate McDonald’s, Burger King, Wendy’s and A&W

McDonald’s, Burger King, Wendy’s, and A&W, AKA the biggest fast food chains in North America, have sparked a burger war, and Torontonians are weighing in on which handheld sandwich reigns supreme.

The battle kicked off earlier this week when McDonald’s CEO Chris Kempczinski faced criticism for a video in which he took a seemingly reluctant bite of the chain’s new menu item, the “Big Arch.”

“I love this product. It is so good,” he said in the video, before taking a tiny, almost undetectable bite.

Since then, social media has exploded with reactions, parody videos, and even other fast food executives showing how enjoying their burgers should really look.

Burger King North American President Tom Curtis shared a video of himself in the kitchen, apron on, taking a big bite of the chain’s signature Whopper.

“Only one thing missing: a napkin,” he said afterwards.

Similarly, Wendy’s U.S. President Pete Suerken posted a video trying the chain’s Baconator after making the sandwich from scratch on the grill, highlighting that the burgers were “fresh, never frozen.”

A&W also joined the fun, with longtime “A&W Guy” actor Allen Lulu parodying Kempczinski while trying the restaurant’s Teen Burger.

“We love this burger product, which most people call a burger,” he mocked, before inviting the McDonald’s CEO out for a lunch date.

@McDonald’s Corporate we loved your taste test video so we made our own. Who else is going to get an iconic Teen Burger for only $4.99?

Torontonians weigh in

Opinions are divided among Toronto residents on which fast food burger deserves the crown.

One local told The Brandon Gonez Show that Burger King takes the top spot, though proximity may play a role:

“It’s the one that’s nearest to my house,” he said.

Another resident favors Wendy’s, simply stating:

“It’s yummy.”

Two Torontonians said A&W is their number-one burger choice.

“Maybe it’s more local to me,” one explained.

“Their burgers just taste different,” another added, noting their usual meal is a Teen Burger or Mama Burger with sweet potato fries on the side.

Interestingly, none of the Torontonians surveyed picked McDonald’s. Many who had seen Kempczinski’s viral video called on the CEO and other fast food chains to show more authenticity when promoting their products.

“It looks like it’s his first time trying a burger,” one person said. “It shouldn’t be a ‘product.’ It should be something that you should be proud of… and it shows that whatever they’re giving out to the public, they’re not having themselves.”
