Last night’s rain didn’t stop Toronto R&B fans from showing up in full force for Mariah the Scientist’s first of two shows in the city this week.
Fans traveled from across Southern Ontario, from Pickering to Bowmanville to Sarnia, to see the ultimate lover girl live, braving chilly temperatures and wet weather to catch a glimpse of the singer-songwriter in person at HISTORY.
One devoted fan, dressed in pink reminiscent of Mariah the Scientist’s latest Hearts Sold Separately album cover, admitted that the weather was no deterrent.
“We’re so excited [to see Mariah the Scientist] that we’re standing in the rain and my hair is gonna start dripping red real soon. That’s how much I don’t care!” she told The Brandon Gonez Show.
Another attendee shared similar enthusiasm despite the cold.
“We are honestly super excited for the concert. It’s just very cold, extremely cold, but we’re really excited to see Mariah,” she gushed.
Some fans approached the night with humor as well.
“My pants are definitely ruined, so she better be worth it,” one fan teased.
While many lined up for the chance to see Mariah the Scientist live for the first time, longtime fans were just as eager to see her again. She last visited Toronto in 2024, performing her To Be Eaten Alive tour at the 1,500-capacity Danforth Music Hall. This time, the singer has graduated to the larger 2,500-person HISTORY venue, prompting some fans to hope for an even bigger upgrade in the future.
“Mariah the Scientist concerts are always lively,” one fan said. “Next time, hopefully a bigger venue with indoor space.”
Fans also had clear ideas of what they wanted to hear, from tracks off the new album like “Is It a Crime?,” “No More Entertainers,” and “More,” to fan favorites such as “Boys Don’t Cry,” “Always n Forever,” and the iconic “Christmas in Toronto.”
Mariah the Scientist will return to HISTORY for her second show on Friday, with rainy weather once again setting the mood.
