Toronto-born NBA player Shai Gilgeous-Alexander celebrated his birthday over the weekend, and Drake gave him the best surprise gift, a freestyle rap.
The Oklahoma City Thunder point guard, who is the current back-to-back MVP award winner in the NBA, was surrounded by loved ones for his 28th birthday and longtime friend Drake made a celebratory speech that turned into a freestyle rap.
Hyping up Gilgeous-Alexander, making a play on words about his No.2 jersey and him being such a great player, Drake turned up the energy in the room when he said, “Two on the jersey, but we’re here for the one.”
The two shared a heartfelt hug after the speech and everyone who witnessed it and fans online are going crazy over Drake’s bars.
Fans are showing love to the “6ix God”, hyping up his ability to spit impromptu fire lines, proving why he is so admired.
“They can never make me hate DRAKEEEEE,” said a user on The Brandon Gonez Show post.
“This is why we love him,” said another user.
Drake has been full of surprises this year, from his triple album drop in May to his genius marketing campaigns like setting up an ice sculpture in downtown Toronto ahead of his album Iceman.
Some may argue that Drake is one of the most iconic people to come out of Toronto, and many are adding Shai Gilgeous-Alexander to that list.
“Top 2 Canadian rn,” a user commented on Gilgeous-Alexander’s social media post.
Gilgeous-Alexander has become the first-ever guard in NBA history to average over 30 points per game while shooting better than 55 percent from the field, many calling him one of the best Canadian basketball players ever.
