Hilarious 2013 Billy Eichner ‘name a woman’ clip may have inspired TikTok users to start the viral ‘name a woman’ trend.

Actor and comedian Billy Eichner may be the one to thank for the viral ‘name a woman’ trend because of a 2013 clip circulating online from his “Billy on the Street” game show.

In the video, he’s seen in New York approaching a woman on the streets with a microphone and says, “Ms, for a dollar, name a woman.”

The woman in the video appeared to look stressed and didn’t end up answering him before running off camera.

Now on TikTok, it seems that Eichner may have fueled the popular ‘name a woman’ trend that has women asking their significant others  the same question.

TikTok user Tania Martinez, who goes by @taniatotanesmartinez, posted a video that has gained 9 million views since publication, requesting women to do one thing.

“Today ask your man to name a woman, if that guy says any other name than yours, you should start a fight,” Martinez said.

Men have responded with a variety of answers, from their family members to female public figures.

In the comments, one user said, “My husband said Ice Spice. I need a good divorce lawyer.”

Another said, “Mine said Wonder Woman….time to cry.”

Although there isn’t a “correct” answer, many women hoped their partners would respond with their name.

Even TikTok influencer Alix Earle  jumped onto the trend with her NFL boyfriend Braxton Berrios.

“That’s the question?” he asked.

“Yeah,” she responded.

He immediately answered her name and she reacted with a laugh.

“Duh, how stupid do you think I am?,” he said laughing with her.

One user commented, “Oh Braxton, you’re the only one to get this right so far.”

Looks like Eichner has seen other people’s remake of his 2013 clip because he reposted the video earlier this week on TikTok. He captioned it, “The OG #nameawoman clip!! Thank you, Yoga Matt!! #billyonthestreet.”
