A Canadian maple syrup brand wants to create awareness for Americans to try the real taste of the Canadian staple after a new survey revealed Americans are consuming too much of the fake stuff.

In a recent Canadian survey by SMS Reach Advisor, it revealed over half of the American respondents misidentified table syrup as maple syrup. It also discovered the reason why Americans didn’t opt for the real stuff was because of the extra fee restaurants would charge them.

Maple of Canada, is a brand of the Québec Maple Syrup Producers that represents over 13,000 maple farmers has launched a new initiative called “Bill the Maple,” to encourage Americans to order pure maple syrup when they dine in at their favourite breakfast restaurant.

They’ve decided to pick up the tabs for Americans ordering maple syrup at restaurants so it gives them the chance to indulge in the sweet condiment without having to worry about the extra fee for it.

It will give an opportunity to Americans to try the beloved Canadian condiment instead of opting for the high-fructose imitation, also known as table syrup.

“In Canada, pure maple syrup is everywhere and truly is one of our national treasures,” David Marino, Promotion and Market Development Director at  Maple from Canada said.

“After discovering that most restaurants in the US charge a considerable extra fee for pure maple syrup, we decided to make sure that no one misses out on the best item on the menu. This first extra fee round is on us,” Marino added.

They’ve released a website called ‘Bill the Maple’ where Americans can submit their bills. “Pure maple syrup should be extra free,” according to their headline. They’ve also linked their campaign video about the new initiative.

Instructions how Americans can submit their receipts:

  • Order pure maple syrup during your breakfast orders
  • Upload your receipt to billthemaple.com
  • Maple from Canada will reimburse your sweet, sweet money back

The offer is valid for a single transaction between Nov. 29 and Dec. 29 or until the $10,000 USD fund limit has been reached according to their policy.
