Fifty years of hip hop is definitely something to celebrate. The genre has touched generations of people around the world, with artists like Jay Z, Nas, and more pumping out hit after hit for decades. The BG Show team headed to New York this summer for a special Hennessy celebration for the 50th birthday of the greatest genre of music in the world.
With the team in a New York state of mind, our team hopped on a bus to tour the city and take in the roots of hip hop as a genre.
First, the team headed to Queensbridge, the neighbourhood where the legendary Nas grew up.
Then we headed to the Bronx to boogie down, and see the “birthplace of hip hop”, You know we had to stop in at 1520 Sedgewick Avenue. The apartment building, located in the Bronx’s Morris Heights neighbourhood, is widely recognized as the genre’s birthplace.
“We’re talking about Black and Latino kids about to change the world, right here,” the tour guide explained.
