Viral video of a Walmart onion sparks new anxiety for Canadian shoppers

A Tiktok video is going viral after a woman posted a video of a spoiled onion that was bought recently from a Canadian Walmart.

Looking normal from the outside, the video shows an onion that she cut in half and the inside has a brownish-red colour that looks very off-putting.

“I just got this from Walmart, like a grocery delivery a few days ago,” said Amber Dee whose Tiktok username is @allthingsambur.

The bag of yellow onions was from the brand “Your Fresh Market” which is a private label brand owned by Walmart Canada.

Walmart Canada’s official Tiktok page commented on the video saying, “Hi Amber! We’d like to get this sorted as soon as possible. Could you please send us a DM with your contact info and order number for your delivery?”.

Many people are sharing their shock in the comment section of the video, many stating that they have never seen something like this before.

“It rotted from the inside, they sprayed so many persevering chemicals on the outside that it couldn’t rot on the surface,” a user commented on the video.

Another user stated “everyone complaining about Walmart and saying it’s your fault for shopping there but I’m sorry, this should not be a thing anywhere you go. Nowhere should be selling rotting, rancid produce. People should be able to shop there and not have to worry about stuff like this.”

The Tiktoker did make a follow-up video and cut into the rest of the onions in the pack out of curiosity, and found that the others were fine.

The BG Show reached out to Walmart Canada for a statement but did not receive one.
