A Toronto realtor known for exposing some pretty wild listings in the city is back with another one, seemingly more mind blowing than previous ones.

TikTok user Anya Ettinger (@aserealty) has made a name for herself after going viral (on multiple occasions) for sharing just how bad the rental market has become in Toronto.

This time, one resident posted a listing looking for a fellow female tenant who is willing to share her queen sized bed for $900.

@aserealty

just when you thought the Toronto rental market couldn’t get any worse, it did. Someone is trying to rent out a space in their queen sized bed in a downtown condo for $900/mo. And the worst part is that someone is actually going to rent this… SEND HELP #rentalmarket #roomrental #torontorentals #rentalcrisis #realestatefail

For how horrible Toronto’s rental market is, listings like these are actually understandable and speak to how bad people are struggling out there.

However, it’s the steep cost that took many by surprise.

“Not even a king where you can comfortably place a pillow barrier. How does that work? You just say goodnight roomie and then you roll over?,” Ettinger said in a TikTok video posted on Monday that has already garnered more than 550,000 views as of publication.

Ettinger also notes that investing in two twin beds would have made more sense.

“This is so unhinged. Renting out a space in your bed for $900 a month? No wonder so many people hate it here,” she continued.

Sometimes when talking about how catastrophic the rental market is in Toronto, it’s better to laugh than cry.

“Spooning is additional a month,” one user joked.

“Sharing a bed with a random person…seems legit,” another said.

Others in the comment sections asked if this was even legal and also called on Ontario Premier Doug Ford to do more to push back against the housing crisis.

“Living in Toronto can’t be worth it. It just can’t be,” someone else added.

Unfortunately, this is far from an isolated situation.

In fact, according to Rentals.ca, roommate rental listings have surged in the last few months across Canada since renters are constantly looking for ways to save on housing costs.

Its latest rental report showed that the volume of listings for shared accommodations over the past three months has grown by 27 per cent in Canada compared to last year.

Ontario alone saw a 78 per cent increase in listings during the same time period.

Toronto even took the third spot for having the most expensive rent nationally, just behind Victoria and Burnaby, B.C, with an average rent of $2,614 for a one-bedroom unit.
