A Toronto spot puts a spin on pizza with a Jamaican twist

Whether you’re craving Italian food, Indian food or almost any other type of cuisine, Toronto is known for its vast options when it comes to restaurants.

The city is also known for fusion cuisine as well, and Beast Pizza’s viral beef patty pizza is all the talk right now.

The Jamaican-Italian fusion pizza had a beef patty filling with a mozzarella base and turmeric dough.

The Brandon Gonez Show was able to try it out and see what the hype is all about.

“You know, you eat with your eyes first, which is funny saying [and] seeing a bunch of patty filling on top of a pizza might not be the most appealing thing to everybody. But I think it’s a beautiful thing,” Chef Nathan Middleton tells The Brandon Gonez Show.

Chef Nathan Middleton is the co-owner of Beast Pizza alongside Scott Vivian.

“Out of 10, I would give this a solid eight,” said Brandon.

The 12 inch pie costs $26 and the experience is definitely worth a try.

Toronto has major Jamaican influence from beef patty’s being a city staple, to some of the city’s slang words deriving from Jamaican “patois”.

“Toronto, it’s a Jamaican beef patty city, let’s be real. And there’s people out there that like, dedicate their socials to finding the best beef patty, which I’m jealous of, because I wish I could do that every day. This pizza felt like the right thing to do,” shared Middleton.

Beast Pizza is known for their other gourmet and uncommon pizza flavours like the “Wiener Wheel” made with pork or beef hot dogs, and “What the Cluck” consisting of a sweet potato cream sauce.

The restaurant is located at 96 Tecumseth St. in Toronto, and is open Wednesday through Sunday from 5pm-10pm.
