A woman with a brain tumour didn’t want to be an inconvenience on the 510 Spadina streetcar when she showed signs of needing medical attention.

On May 31, streetcar operator Monique Blake insisted a TTC passenger named Michele-Marie Beer leave without seeking medical attention when she noticed her hands began trembling on board.

On Thursday, once the two were reunited at City Hall, Beer explained how Blake saved her life.

“I would like you to see EMS, I think you know there’s something you should be seen for you’re just not steady on your feet,” Beer explained what Blake told her.

Beer said she was mortified to further delay transit services because she said it was already so backed up.

However, Beer said Blake reassured her that she was not inconveniencing anyone.

Once Beer received medical attention, she explained receiving life-saving emergency brain surgery because of a brain tumour that she was not aware of.

“The very first person I thought of when I woke up in recovery was her,’ Beer said.

She made it a mission for the TTC operator to receive recognition by the city for her heroic service.

As a result, Blake credits her mother, a retired long-term care nurse who taught her warning signs about people with brain injuries.

Blake’s message to people is never hesitate to request for medical assistance if needed.

Beer also posted on Instagram calling Blake her guardian angel.
