The independent autopsy results of Nolan Wells, commissioned by his parents, were announced on Wednesday, and found the teen’s cause of death to be “undetermined pending investigation.”
At the annual NAACP National Convention in Chicago, Ben Crump, the civil rights attorney who is representing Wells’ parents made the announcement of the autopsy report.
The forensic pathologist found no fractures, cuts or bruises on Wells, although he noted there was red discoloration on the back of his head, which will be further investigated.
Crump also mentioned at the news conference that the forensic pathologist noted in the report that he can not rule out foul play.
The 18-year-old went missing during a Fourth of July trip with friends to Horn Island, where he was found dead two days later, washed ashore. Authorities suspect that Wells drowned but his parents think otherwise since their son was an athlete.

After the eulogies, Reverend Al Sharpton announced a $50,000 reward for anyone who could provide information that can lead to an arrest or conviction, and shared that American filmmaker Tyler Perry, doubled the amount to $100,000.
Perry had also helped the family cover some of the funeral expenses.
Wells’ parents continue to fight for answers and are demanding a transparent investigation into their son’s death.
“Any parent that would be in this situation, you would do anything, anything to find out what happened to your child,” said Christine Wonsley at Wednesday’s news conference.
Retired NFL star Terrell Owens also made a contribution, adding $25,000 to the reward, bring the total amount to $125,000.
