Toronto Raptors legendary former player Chris Bosh chimes in regarding the recent situation involving Kawhi Leonard’s trade back to the Raptors being put on pause.
The pause comes from the ongoing investigation by the NBA and the Los Angeles Clippers over allegations involving a reported $28-million “no-show” endorsement deal between Leonard and bankrupt company Aspiration Fund Adviser LLC.
Bosh posted a video to his social media, weighing in on the investigation and breaking down what it entails.
He explained that the investigation is focused on whether the L.A. Clippers used an endorsement deal with Aspiration as a way to provide Leonard with extra compensation outside of the salary cap rules set by the NBA’s collective bargaining agreement (CBA).
“You know, it’s a real tough situation because there are players in this trade. It’s tough to get traded by a team and then saying, ‘Well, hold on, you’re not traded yet’,” Bosh said in the video.
Bosh also says he is unsure about the fate of Leonard and advises viewers to keep updated with this situation as it has large implications.
“You know, we shall see. It seemed like a done deal. I was really happy for the Raptors fans getting their champion back. It seemed to be, you know, a clean cut move. But now we’re in this situation,” he said.
Bosh played for the Toronto Raptors from 2003 to 2010, spending his first seven seasons with the team before moving onto Miami Heat.
Although the Raptors had to put a pause on the trade that had fans excited for the former player, the team did say that they are in hopes of Kawhi joining the team again.
“The Raptors remain eager to bring Kawhi back to Toronto and look forward to a swift resolution for our players, our organization, and our fans,” read the Toronto Raptors statement.
