The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have been receiving heat from the British press over recent pictures of them with Jamaican government officials.

The photos were snapped when Meghan Markle and Prince Harry made a surprise visit to Kingston, Jamaica on Tuesday attending the screening of the film Bob Marley: One Love.

They were seen taking pictures on the red carpet with Jamaica’s Prime Minister Andrew Holness and other government officials.

The British press caught wind of the public appearance and have published bizarre headlines about the photos.

“Meghan and Harry pose next to anti-royal Jamaican Prime Minister who wants to ditch the monarchy and wanted Wills and Kate they’ll never be King and Queen of his nation as Charles undergoes prostate surgery and the Princess of Wales recovers in hospital,” reads a headline from tabloid Daily Mail.

People online are reacting to their outrageous headlines, “It’s way past time. The British monarchy has benefited from its affiliation with Jamaica long enough. We need to cut ties and continue on a real journey on independence,” a user said.

“Messing with Commonwealth politics. They had no connection to the film. THey are there to be on a red carpet, any red carpet, regardless of the political implications for the Commonwealth – of which Meghan is dimly aware and Harold is too dumb to understand. Tell me again how much you loved your Granny, Tiny Todger,” another said.

“British press can take a hike,” a user added.

The Minister of Legal and Constitutional Affairs of Jamaica, Marlene Malahoo Forte also attended the event. Forte is also one of the officials who is leading the nation’s decision to cut ties with the British monarchy.

On X, formerly Twitter, she posted a photo of her with Meghan and Prince Harry that sparked even more public opinion.

“Even more hilarious: the person with them here is the minister in charge of changing the constitution and making us a republic,” a user commented.

However, Forte clapped back and responded, “#OneLove!”
