TORONTO – An investigation is underway after a Toronto teacher was accused of taping a student to their desk.
The alleged incident happened at Seventh Street Junior School in Etobicoke, and the Toronto District School Board confirmed that the teacher and an early childhood educator have been placed on home assignment pending the results of the investigation.
“When the school first learned of these allegations, it notified TDSB’s Employee Services department, Children’s Aid Society, and the Toronto Police Service as per our procedures,” Ryan Bird, Executive Officer of Toronto District School Board Government, Public & Community Relations told The Brandon Gonez Show in a statement.
“These allegations are very serious and, if true, would be completely unacceptable and could result in serious consequences up to and including dismissal,” Bird continued, adding that the allegations involved two students in the class.
School board officials say that social work support has been provided for the students in the impacted class.
Online, many people are voicing their concerns about the alleged incident.
“I could not fathom my 5yr old being taped to a chair! I would lose it! If a parent did that to their child C.A.S would be on my doorstep! Child will never forget! B.S!” said one parent.
“The only “leave” this teacher should be on is permanent unemployment from the teaching profession,” said another.
This comes after a teacher in Kitchener, Ontario was charged for taping two students to their desks back in October 2021.
