A video of a news reporter responding to a viewer’s comments about her body during a live broadcast has gone viral.
Leslie Horton is a traffic reporter at Global News Calgary and she responded to a viewer’s insensitive email on-air.
“Congratulations on your pregnancy. If you’re gonna wear old bus-driver pants, you have to expect emails like this,” Horton said.
“No, I’m not pregnant. I actually lost my uterus to cancer last year. And this is what women of my age look like,” she said.
“So, if it’s offensive to you, that is unfortunate.”
The video has since garnered 4.2 million views since publication. Many people praised the reporter in the comments.
One user on X said, “Good for you Leslie, very well handled!”
Another commented, “I am so disgusted someone would say this. You are a beautiful and incredible human being – no one deserves this.”
Actress Jamie Lee Curtis reported the video onto her Instagram account showing support to Horton.
Horton explained to the CBC that she recognized the person who wrote the nasty email.
“I get this email, I recognized the name because I have had previous emails from this man. I will say it is a man, I’m not outing him, not saying his name,” Horton said to CBC’s The Calgary Eyeopener.
Horton said she was getting ready to do her traffic report after her colleague wrapped up her weather report before she unexpectedly shared her story on-air.
“All of a sudden these words just came out of my mouth, I didn’t plan them, I didn’t prepare them, I didn’t know I was going to say them. These words just came right from my soul,” she said.
“I finished my traffic report and I moved on with my life and what happened after that was just really something I sat back and watched.”
“Oh wow, I think maybe this hit a chord,” she added.
