American teacher defends live streaming his students taking out his braids after backlash

An American science teacher is clapping back at people that think his students taking out his braids is inappropriate.

Marquise White, who works at a school in Maryland, U.S., made headlines recently after live streaming his female students unbraiding his hair during school hours.

He posted a video on May 5 explaining why he allowed his students to take out his hair and said he didn’t have time to take out his braids himself before going to his hair appointment after work.

White further explained that students who completed their work and had good behaviour would receive permission to unbraid his hair 10 minutes before school dismissal.

Students don’t care how much you know until they know how much you care. Teaching is a work of heart. Comment your thoughts #teacher #teachersoftiktok #teacherproblems #millenialsoftiktok #middleschool

Several people online reacted to his video with one user saying, “As a mother I would have been livid!!!!”

Another user said, “It’s like a big brother and lil sister behaviour.”

White responded, “And I have five little sisters.”

He also posted a video clapping back to a user’s comment.

He also posted a follow up video reading text messages that he received from students expressing how much they miss him. In the video, some students referred to the teacher as “bestie.”

White also posted on his Instagram story students creating handwritten letters expressing their love for him.

According to WUSA9, The Prince George’s County Public Schools district told the news outlet, White has been “reassigned out of the classroom pending the outcome of the investigation.”

White is known for posting several videos on his social media platforms interacting with his students such as playing darts, playing soccer, and students painting his nails.
