Toronto Raptors fans get real with The Brandon Gonez Show following the team’s playoff elimination.
It was a heartbreaking night in Toronto following the Toronto Raptors being eliminated from the 2026 NBA playoffs by the Cleveland Cavaliers.
Fans of the team are left stunned as their playoff run came to an end after a hard-fought game seven.
“I do remember a couple years ago when they won the championships, what that was like for Toronto. Being there with my dad and my family and seeing how they celebrated, I really did think that maybe it could have been possible to get that again. So it was a little bit of a blow,” says Emma D. from Toronto.
“It’s unfair, it’s brutal, and we should have stayed in the playoffs,” says Raptors fan Tyler Sloan.
Raptors players Scottie Barns, Brandon Ingram and Jakob Poeltl spoke about their season at a conference following the team’s elimination by the Cavaliers.
They expressed their contentment with their overall performance this season but are looking forward to doing better in the future.
“We didn’t know it would come so soon. It’s just like an abrupt ending,” says Toronto Raptors player Brandon Ingram. “So we, you know, enjoyed each other on the plane last night, played cards, listened to music and just enjoyed the time.”
Toronto was full of excitement heading into Sunday’s game after RJ Barrett’s viral game winning three-point shot in game six on Friday night. Many people are comparing it to Kawhi Leonard’s shot in 2019.
“I wish I saw them go further because that shot, that Kawhi type shot, that we saw the other night; if only we saw that last night,” says Toronto local Mary Megahy.
However, the Cavaliers ended with a 114–102 victory, now advancing to face the Detroit Pistons. But Toronto is still loyal to the team and is in high hopes for next season.
“We seem to go to the end and then just miss it. Hopefully we’ll do better next year,” she added.
