A new statue of Queen Elizabeth ll was unveiled at Queens Park this week. The statue was sculpted by Canadian artist, Ruth Abernethy, and cast in Mississauga.

“This beautiful bronze statue pays tribute to Her Late Majesty’s contribution to Ontario’s history and heritage. It celebrates her 70 years of dedication and service to the people of Canada, the United Kingdom and the entire Commonwealth,” Doug Ford said during the unveiling of the statue at Queen’s Park.

The statue was originally planned to be privately funded, but because funds fell short, the government stepped in to pay for it using taxpayers money which allocated $1.5 million to have it installed.

The Premier posted on his X account images of the unveiling at Queen’s Park and people voiced their dissatisfaction in the comment section of the post.

Some pointed out the cost of it by saying it’s a waste of taxpayers money and others didn’t like the appearance of how the statue represented Her Late Majesty.

“We hope to educate and inspire visitors to Queen’s Park today and for generations to come,” Ford said.
