The odds of winning the lottery are very slim, but one Thornhill man has struck it big not once, not twice, but three times!
Vincent Charlemagne of Thornhill, Ontario recently scored a major lottery prize for the third time in 11 years.
In August 2013, Charlemagne won more than a whopping $30 million playing LOTTO MAX.
According to the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Commission (OLG), Charlemagne got lucky eight years later, winning around $1 million in 2021 by playing LOTTO MAX MAXMILLIONS.
Most recently, in September 2024, Charlemagne claimed his third major price: a hefty $100,000 he won by way of ENCORE.
“I always add ENCORE to my tickets,” the winner told OLG.
“I first shared the news with my son. He couldn’t believe it either, but was quick to congratulate me.”
The three-time winner purchased the ticket at North York’s Jane Variety & Gifts. He told the gaming commission that while he is unsure what he will do with the cash, he is happy and comfortable.
“I definitely won’t be working anymore,” he said.
Online, many people are bewildered at the idea of winning the lottery once, let alone three times.
“Winning 30 Mil and getting up to play the lotto again is mawd,” wrote one person on Instagram.
“And I can’t even win a free ticket,” another person joked.
“If I win 30 mil, last thing I’m ever doing again is buying a lottery ticket.”
ENCORE is an option for lottery plays that can be played in conjunction with most OLG lottery games, for an extra charge of $1. There are two ENCORE draws every day.
